Is Track and Field Fading?

Killeen, Texas - We spoke with track and field star Omar Craddock about the popularity of his sport. What do you think about the future of track and field? (VSS Promo)

Could You Do Me A Favor?

Name just one Olympic Track and Field star, from the last 3 years, go ahead, try it.

Okay you got nothing let’s be real, and for many of you the only track and field athlete that came to mind wasn’t even American, your memory likely recalled former Jamaican Sprinter Usain Bolt. Who by the way hasn’t competed in over 4 years!

But enough about what you don’t know, here is what you need to know.

Nearly every high school in America and over 950 colleges field track teams but where is the national track league?

Did you realize that there are 44 Track and Field events! 44. This number is crazy!

So why is that the popularity of Track and Field doesn’t draw more attention? Take Pan Am Games winner and Texas Native Omar Craddock for example. Omar is a 3-time Collegiate National Champion in Triple Jump and a Pan Am Gold Medal winner in 2019.

Why don’t you know more about stars like Omar?

America, we have a problem, and the trouble is that we fallen in love with ourselves. We fell in love the big three American sports; American Football, Baseball and Basketball they own the hearts, attention span and affection of kids and adults alike in the USA.

Almost from the first moments after birth it is ingrained into our kids and schools’ systems to promote the big three.  And to be honest though, I mean who doesn’t love and revere the big three.

But I ask you my fellow Americans. Why don’t you really know more about track and field?  And don’t say there isn’t any room in your DVR or your schedule, that’s a lie.

The truth is the greatness of the Summer Olympic Games in second in global popularity only to the Great World Cup of Soccer, aka the original Fùtbol. And just like Soccer most Americans only pay attention to track and field every Four years.

We are here to tell you that you are doing it wrong. If you play any of the big three high school sports, then you should be playing track and field.

Why?

Because they have the biggest teams and most events. You literally get to watch whatever events interest you! That is so much to offer the fans.

The challenge is on America, follow your local track stars all the way to the podium, no matter at what level they are playing.

Chances are if you were good enough to play the big 3, then you will be good in some track and field event. sign up and support your track stars.
